About the role

Coventry Building Society have an exciting new role for a Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Infrastructure Monitoring to join the CIDO department.

The role holder will be a Subject Matter Expert (SME), and responsible for providing strategic expertise to ensure effective management of the technical and business services for your specialist area. The Senior Infrastructure Engineer – Infrastructure Monitoring role sits in the Infrastructure Monitoring and technical observability Team.

In the financial sector, APM (Application Performance Monitoring) isn't just about "uptime"; it is about transaction integrity, regulatory compliance, and customer trust. Coventry Building Society is looking for an expert Dynatrace Specialist to join our Critical Infrastructure team. In a world where milliseconds matter, you will ensure the reliability, performance, and stability of our core banking platforms. You will move beyond simple monitoring to true Observability, helping us prevent incidents before they impact our customers.

This role requires you to be on-site in Coventry 1 – 3 days per week for collaboration with peers and other CIDO events.

Benefits:

  • 28 days holiday a year plus bank holidays and a holiday buy/sell scheme
  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme (up to 20% based on company performance)
  • Personal pension with matched contributions
  • Life assurance (6 times annual salary

About you

You will lead the administration, configuration, and maintenance of the Dynatrace platform (SaaS or Managed) across Hybrid Cloud and On-Premise environments. Manage the rollout of OneAgents and ActiveGates across complex environments, including Kubernetes clusters, legacy Mainframes, and Cloud (AWS/Azure) infrastructure.

You will create custom dashboards for different stakeholders—technical views for DevOps engineers and high-level "BizOps" dashboards for executives tracking real-time transaction values and user experience. Act as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) during critical incidents (P1/P2), utilizing Dynatrace’s PurePath technology to pinpoint code-level bottlenecks or infrastructure failures immediately.

You’ll integrate Dynatrace with our ITSM and CI/CD ecosystems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira, Jenkins, Ansible) to automate incident management and self-healing workflows. Design complex synthetic transaction tests to simulate customer journeys (e.g., logging in, making a transfer) to proactively detect availability issues and train application teams on how to interpret APM data to improve their code quality and performance.

To be successful in this role, it’s essential that you’re able to demonstrate:

  • Dynatrace Mastery: hands-on experience with Dynatrace. You must be comfortable with Management Zones, Request Attributes, Tagging Rules, and Alert Profiles.
  • Core Architecture: Deep understanding of multi-tier architectures (Web, App, DB) and microservices.
  • Containerization: Strong experience monitoring containerized environments (Kubernetes, OpenShift, or Docker).
  • Cloud Fluency: Experience with at least one major cloud provider (AWS, Azure, or GCP).
  • Protocol Knowledge: Strong understanding of HTTP/S, TCP/IP, DNS, and SQL.
  • Must have strong experience of business critical and regulated Financial Services environments.
  • Security & Compliance: Understanding of PII (Personally Identifiable Information) masking and GDPR/regulatory constraints regarding data capture.
  • High-Volume Environments: Experience working in environments processing high TPS (Transactions Per Second).
Desirable skills for this role are:
  • Strong knowledge of other monitoring tools such as Cisco AppDynamics, ThousandEyes, SolarWinds SHO, Datadog
  • Scripting: Proficiency in Python, Bash, or PowerShell for automation tasks.
