About the role

Following our recent acquisition of The Co-operative Bank, we are now one of the UK’s largest mutual financial services groups, with combined assets of approximately £89bn and 4.5 million members and customers. We are accelerating our AWS cloud adoption and major digital transformation & integration programmes.

Coventry Building Society Group is seeking an Information & Cyber Security Consultant on a fixed-term contract to provide immediate, high-impact support. You will step into a senior advisory and delivery role, working in a product-based agile environment. You will lead on the application of security controls and policies across key cloud solutions, infrastructure, and digital programmes, proactively identifying risks, driving pragmatic solutions, and constructively challenging designs and outcomes where necessary to protect the organisation and support the successful integration of The Co-operative Bank.

This is a genuine opportunity to make an immediate and visible impact during a transformative period for the Group. You will work closely with architecture, engineering, and delivery teams across both Coventry Building Society and The Co-operative Bank entities.

This is a hybrid role, based out of either Coventry or Manchester, with regular presence required in Coventry (Binley) for key collaboration, peer reviews, and CIDO events.

Our benefits include:

  • 28 days holiday a year plus bank holidays and a holiday buy/sell scheme
  • Annual discretionary bonus scheme
  • Personal pension with matched contributions
  • Life assurance (6 times annual salary)

About you

You are a seasoned, confident cyber security professional who combines deep technical expertise with excellent stakeholder management and the willingness to challenge appropriately. You thrive in fast-paced transformation and integration environments and are known for delivering pragmatic, business-focused security outcomes.

You’ll have significant hands-on experience securing complex AWS environments in regulated industries. A strong delivery track record in modern cloud-native programmes and large-scale integrations. The credibility and communication skills to influence at all levels, including senior stakeholders and a pragmatic mindset, you focus on enabling the business securely while supporting rapid change.

For this role you’ll need to have:

  • Deep subject-matter expertise in AWS Information Security, including architecture, controls, IAM, networking, compliance, and security best practices
  • Extensive experience with modern delivery practices: microservices, CI/CD pipelines, Kubernetes, container security, Infrastructure as Code, and secure SDLC
  • Proven ability to design and implement security solutions during cloud migrations, digital transformation, and organisational integrations
  • Strong knowledge of cloud workload transition challenges, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, and business continuity in distributed environments
  • Experience managing and influencing stakeholders at all levels with clarity and gravitas
Experience in these areas would be helpful:
  • Previous experience in financial services or another regulated sector (FCA, PRA, etc.)
  • Exposure to security architecture reviews, threat modelling, and risk assessments at pace
  • Comfort working in a product-led agile delivery model during periods of significant business change
  • Recognised professional certification (CCSP, CISSP, AWS Certified Security – Specialty, or equivalent)
